Select a location with full sun to part shade. Grows well in almost any soil but the best flavored heads are produced in fertile soil with plenty of water. Plant outdoors in fall, winter or spring in mild climates and in spring after frost danger in colder areas.
Pick entire plant when heads have firmed and turn deep red. Peel off outer wrapper leaves.
