Portulaca, or moss rose, is the perfect choice for hot, sunny locations, where it will thrive and produce a colorful carpet of small, rose-like flowers. Plants trail to about 18″ and are perfect in rock gardens and borders.

Plant in a sunny, well-drained area with average soil after last spring frost, when soil has warmed to at least 65°F. Seeds are very small; mix with sand for ease of sowing. Scatter seeds thinly on soil surface. They need light to germinate. Keep soil evenly moist, but not wet, until germination.
Portulaca is very drought tolerant and does not thrive in wet conditions. Flowers close at night and on cloudy days.
