This heirloom kale was originally brought to the West by Russian traders. Wavy gray-green leaves tinged with purple taste best when tender. Delicious cooked or raw in salads.

Prefers rich, well-drained soil and plenty of water. Grows best in cool weather. In spring, start indoors six weeks before last frost and transplant two weeks before last frost. In fall, direct sow 2″ apart and thin to final spacing two months before first frost.
Very frost hardy. Its flavor will improve in cold weather.
